Data Visualization: Tips by

Visualizing is excited to be a part of the EUHackathon 2013. For the event, participants will use data sets to create innovative and user-friendly data visualizations and upload them to the platform.

About the Platform is a shared space and a free resource for data visualization. There you can share work, explore and discuss the best in data visualization and infographics, find open data sets, enter challenges, and participate in unique events. All visualizations uploaded to are under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0) and displayed using the Visualizing Player.

Prepare for the EUhackathon

Participants should explore and familiarize themselves with the platform in the weeks leading up to the EUHackathon 2013. Below are a few notes to help get started:

    1. Register for an account on
    2. Complete your profile by displaying your field’s of expertise, and listing out the tools you know.
    3. Upload projects!

HTML – Standalone HTML file or a ZIP including index.html
Image – JPEG or PNG file, up to 5000 x 5000 pixels
Flash – Standalone SWF file
Java – Standalone JAR file or ZIP containing a JAR file
Video – MP4 file up to 32 mb
PDF – Adobe PDF file
External Link – Enter project URL and your page will be embedded in an iFrame
Video Link – Enter YouTube or Vimeo URL

  • Team members can be listed as co-authors of a project, so only one project per team needs to be uploaded under one account.
